The Invocation of The Fifth Amendment

Salahi Invokes The Fifth, January 20, 2010

The FiFth Amendment, Bill of Rights, Clause3
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

This article is about the fifth amendement and how it is being used in society. A couple showed up at Obama's first state dinner and they did not answer a question because they thaught they did not have to answer the question by stating the fifth amendment.

This article cleary states the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. This article shows the fifth amendment because the couple did not feel like they really had to answer the question because they thought it would infringe themselves.

I think the couple should of answered the question because they were not even invited to the dinner. If the couple was invited to the dinner then it would of been a different story.

The Judicial Branch

The Judicial Powers

Article 3, The Judicial Branch, Section 1, Clause 1
"The judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish."

This article is about the Judicial branch and its power to interpret or enforce the laws of the United States of America. This is a political cartoon on how the supreme court can incarcerate anyone who does not obey the law. The judge determines if the person is guilty of a crime or not guilty by the jury. The jury has to vote to see if the person is guilty and if the majority says yes, then the person is guilty. Then the judge sentences the person a number of years in incarceration or they could be sentenced to some type of community service depending on the crime.

This political cartoon clearly states the Article 3, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution. The judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. It clearly states this because it displays how the judicial branch works. It shows how the supreme court works in law because of certain crimes

I think that the judicial branch can be harsh sometimes when they enforce the laws because they are not
always right with their accusations. Sometimes the person being convicted is not the person who committed the felony they are
being convicted for.

Second Amendment

Court hears Second Amendment debate in Chicago. March 2. 2010

Second Amendment, Bill of Rights, Clause 1
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"

There has been a 30 year old handgun ban in the city of Chicago and their has been a lot of controversy against this ban. Many people who are victims of burglary seem to rebel against the ban because they do not have a handgun to defend themselves with. Many people think this is going against the second amendment.

This article clearly demonstrates the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. This article demonstrates the second amendment because it shows that the second amendment is not being dishonored, but controlled. The people in Chicago may not be able to have handguns, but that does not stop them from bearing arms. The people of Chicago can still bear a weapon, but not a handgun since it can be concealed.

I think the handgun ban is right and is not unconstitutional because it allows concealed weapons to be rid of because people can easily hide them. This article is interesting because people it is not abiding the second amendment, but enhancing it in a better way for society.

Freedom of Religion or Child Abuse

Freedom of Religion or Mistreatment. February 10, 2001

First Amendment, Freedom of Religion, Bill of Rights, Clause 1
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion"

Many people practice healing by prayer everyday, even if the patient is about to die. Many people do this because they believe prayer helps more than going to the hospital. It may seem unfair to the patient, especially if the patient is a young child. There have been many cases where parents would pray for help instead of taking their child to a nearby hospital and most likely, the child will die. The law has tried to find ways to go around this religious practice and they did in a handful of states.

This article reasonably demonstrates the First Amendment of the United States. Congress shall make no law against an establishment of religion. This article demonstrates freedom of religion because practices in religion can be wrong to others, but it is sacred to the people who practice it. The government may be able to stop some of the practices, but they cannot disassemble the religion itself.

The world would not probably be the same if people did not practice religion. Some religions do keep peace in the world to some. This article is interesting because it shows that the freedom of religion is not always right to some people because people can cause a big controversy because of the practices they do in their religion. It also interesting that some states do not allow prayer over medical attention because that practice is christian and America is a christian country.

Freedom of Speech

Freedom of speech: Even to prisoners

First Amendment, Freedom of speech, Bill of Rights, Clause1
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech"

People around the world all should have the freedom of speech. People should be able to speak their minds and not be put behinds bars for it, even if some people do not like it. That does mean people can go everywhere just saying anything they want to people. That is when they could be arrested because that is considered a crime.

This political cartoon does not demonstrate First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution in action, but it shows that anybody should be able to speak even if they are incarcerated. They may have lost some of their natural rights, but that does not stop them from their freedom of speech.

The world would not be right if people do not have the freedom of speech. Speaking our minds is what helps our nation move forward. This political cartoon is a good resource to look at because it shows that everybody deserves the right to speak, even if they are in prison. I think that government should make sure that everybody rights are served in prison (at least the freedom of speech).

Protesters flock the Arizona Capitol Sunday over new immigration law

Protesters assemble on Arizona Capitol. April 25, 2010
http://www.examiner.com/x-40986-Salt-Lake-City-Page-One-Examiner~y2010m4d26-Protesters-flock-the-Arizona-Capitol-Sunday-over-new-immigration-law

First Amendment, Freedom of Assembly, Bill of Rights, Clause 1
"The right of the people peaceably to assemble"

Arizona's Governor, Jan Brewer, makes a new immigration law. The laws says that the police can check anybody being suspected as an illegal immigrant and can report them to be deported from the state of Arizona. The law basically states that it is a crime to be in the state illegally. Legal immigrants also have to carry documents showing that their legal. Many People have been protesting against this new immigration law at the Arizona Capitol.

This article demonstrates First Amendment, Freedom of Assembly, Bill of Rights, Clause 1 of the U.S. Constitution. People have the right to assemble. This article demonstrates that people can assemble and protest against anything they think is unfair as long as it is not threatening.

If people do not assemble and protest against the government and just take what the government is throwing at them, then the world would not probably be as equal and fair as it is today. People can all agree on that the government is not always perfect when it comes to making "fair" laws. So if the government does that, then somebody has to go against it and protest.

Article 2, The Executive Branch, Section 2, Clause 1

The goal of this treaty for the incoming President, Barack Obama, is to maintain peace in the world. President Obama and the Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev sign a treaty to shrink their nation's supply of nuclear arsenals. The treaty commits their nations to decrease their nuclear arms by one third.
